Getting started
What you need to know before you explore this class website:
- Assignments and activities. This site will be updated every Monday. Each week, a paper version of the "Weekly TO DO" will be posted in the classroom. It will give you an idea of what will happen that week, as well as all the assignments and tasks that will be covered or due. You can download an extra copy of the Weekly TO DO if you misplace your copy or if you need to view it from home. Click on "Files", above, or log onto our class Google Classroom.
- Calendar of events. The calendar page on this site includes classroom and school-wide events and dates.
- Last-minute notifications. On occasion there may be some last-minute edits or unexpected news that you'll need to receive. Please follow the class on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MsLiang_DG
- Documents you can download. If you need another copy of a classroom document, you will be able to access most of them from the "Files" tab, above.
- Links to interesting websites. Included on this page are links to your other teachers' websites, homework help and games. Please note that I'm still refining the class YouTube site (see icon/link on top right corner of this page).
- Contact Ms. Liang. Click the "Contact" link to send me a direct message (NOTE: I usually respond after 8 pm, and I only respond to school-related messages. If you or your parents need to speak to me about something more in-depth, email me to make an appointment at school.)
About Ms. Liang
I moved from New York City to Toronto in 2002. I’m both an American (remember to go easy on those anti-American jokes and comments) and a Canadian. People are always asking me to name the differences between New York and Toronto; I always answer, “It’s greener here.”
I wasn’t always a teacher. My parents wanted me to become a doctor, so I studied science and math. After university I chose to be … a musician! I found that playing French horn wasn’t the easiest way to make a living, but I can brag that I’ve performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Later I went back to school and became a fundraiser for music education, theatre, and environmental organizations. My former careers have allowed me to explore my passions and help to define who I am as a teacher.
In class, I want to help my students focus on two things: developing critical thinking and listening skills and communicating effectively. Hard work is an absolute requirement. (We will definitely have fun, too!) Remember to ask good questions and get ready to be challenged.
